How to Install or Replace a Filter

Faucet Systems

To install or replace the filter in your faucet system, remove the device from your faucet by unscrewing the threaded mounting nut.

1. Twist back cover off
2. Insert filter into the device (Don’t worry, the filter will fit loosely)
3. Replace back cover

Before first use, run cold water for 5 minutes in a filtered position. During filter flush, it is normal to see cloudy water and hear the sound of water pushing air out of the filter cartridge. Flushing removes any loose materials, which is normal. Prior to each use, run cold water for 5 seconds in a filtered position to activate the filter.

Change your filter every three months for best performance.

Pitchers & Dispensers

To setup install or replace a filter in your pitcher or dispenser, follow these simple steps or watch our video.

If you have a PUR Plus filter, soak the filter in cold water for 15 minutes. Then hold the filter under cold running tap water for 10 seconds. Allow excess to drain.

If you have a PUR basic filter, rinse filter under cold water for 15 seconds.

Insert the filter into the tray. Push down and twist clockwise to lock. If you have done this prior to putting the tray in the pitcher, you can firmly hit the bottom of the filter to assure it is in place.

Change your filter every 2 months for best performance.

Can I run hot water through the filter?

Never run hot water through the filter. Do not use the water above 100˚F/38˚C as this may alter the filter. Use cold water only.

How many contaminants does my filter reduce?

PUR filters are certified by NSF to reduce 70 chemical and physical contaminants and substances, including sediment, chlorine (taste and odor) and its by-products. For a full list of contaminants, click here. PUR does not filter microbes.

How do I know when to replace the filter?

Faucet Systems

To ensure maximum contaminant reduction, replace your PUR filter after 100 gallons of use or every 3 months.* If your Filter Change Light flashes red, it’s time for a new filter.

Pitchers & Dispensers

After 2 months or when the red light on your Filter Change Light Monitor is flashing, it is time to replace your filter. The 3-pack provides 6 months of clean water. 1 filter provides up to 40 gallons, or 2 months, of clean water. For best performance, change your filter every 2 months.

How do I recycle my used PUR filters?

We are currently working on implementing a recycling program for our PUR customers. Please continue to check this section as we’ll provide an update once details become available.

How do I unclog the filter?

If you notice water is filtering slower than normal, remove the filter from your pitcher and shake vigorously until you hear the granules shifting inside.

Should I soak the filter before use?

Yes, if there is some water in the pour tray, but not full, you can pour water out of the pitcher without spilling. We recommend not to pour water if the pour tray is full or close to full.
