New Opportunities:

Richard W. Pombo, chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Resources, announced the following appointments for the 109th Congress: Rep. Barbara Cubin, Wyoming, vice-chair, House Committee on Resources; Rep. Jim Gibbons, Nevada, chairman, Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources; Rep. George Radanovich, California, chairman, Subcommittee on Water and Power; Rep. Greg Walden, Oregon, chairman, Subcommittee on Forests and Forest Health; Rep. Devin Nunes, California, chairman, Subcommittee on National Parks; and Rep. Wayne Gilchrest, Maryland, chairman, Subcommittee on Fisheries & Oceans

Jennifer Deegan, formerly director of regulatory affairs at Washington Gas Light Co., has been named director of energy markets at the Natural Gas Supply Association. Deegan previously held positions at Pace Global Energy Services, Columbia Energy Group, Columbia Gas Distribution Cos., and Columbia Gas Transmission Corp.

Ken Dolan, director of risk management at MDU Resources Group Inc., has been named to the new position of assistant treasurer-enterprise risk management at the company. Dolan has 23 years of insurance and risk management experience. He joined MDU Resources as director of risk management in April 2003. Prior to joining MDU Resources, he was the global enterprise risk director for Seaboard Corp.

Dr. Gary Serio has joined Entergy as the vice president of safety and environment at the company's corporate headquarters in New Orleans. Serio most recently held the position of director of environment, safety, health, medical, and security at the Northrop Grumman Corp. in Los Angeles.

Northeast Utilities announced four leadership appointments within its transmission business and The Connecticut Light and Power Co. (CL&P), effective immediately. Lee Olivier, 56, currently president and COO of CL&P, has been elected to the new position of president of the transmission group. Raymond P. Necci, 52, currently vice president of utility group services, was elected president of CL&P. James A. Muntz, 47, currently vice president of CL&P customer operations, was elected vice president of the transmission group. And Peter Clarke, 43, currently director of CL&P system projects, was elected vice president of CL&P customer operations.

Shuffle Board:

The Nuclear Energy Institute has elected three new members to the executive committee who will serve until May 2007: Anthony J. Alexander, president and CEO, FirstEnergy Corp.; W. Gary Gates, president and CEO, Omaha Public Power District; and Gerald W. Grandey, president and CEO, Cameco Corp.

The Energy East Corp. board of directors elected two new independent directors, John T. Cardis and Seth A. Kaplan. Cardis, 63, retired as a partner of Deloitte & Touche USA LLP in 2004. He served on the executive committee of Deloitte & Touche for 18 years and was a member of its board of directors for eight years. Kaplan, 49, was until last year a partner at Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where he specialized in corporate law for 22 years. Kaplan also is a coadjutant member of the faculty at Rutgers University School of Law-Newark.

Retired:

William W. Schively, 58, president of Select Energy, retired from Northeast Utilities Jan. 31 after serving in his current position since 1999. Larry De Simone, president and CEO of all of NU's competitive businesses, including Select Energy, will assume the responsibilities of president of Select Energy.
