New Hires:
DPL Inc. named James V. Mahoney president of DPL Energy LLC. Mahoney has been with EarthFirst Technologies since 2001.
The board of directors of Piedmont Natural Gas elected Kim R. Cocklin senior vice president and general counsel. Cocklin's previous experience includes time as senior vice president at Williams Gas Pipeline and senior vice president and general counsel at Texas Gas Transmission Corp.
Robert Baker Jr. assumed the chairmanship of the Georgia Public Service Commission, a position he will hold for all of 2003. Baker has been with the commission since 1993.
Eric K. Yeaman was appointed the CFO, treasurer, and financial vice president of Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc. Yeaman is a former senior audit manager with Arthur Anderson LLP.
Westar Energy Inc. appointed Mark A. Ruelle as its executive vice president and CFO. Ruelle recently served in various executive positions at Sierra Pacific Resources.
Avista Corp. appointed Dr. Lura Powell to its board of directors, subject to a vote by company shareholders in May. Powell is senior vice president of Battelle Memorial Institute and director of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
The board of Puget Sound Energy elected Jennifer L. O'Connor vice president and general counsel. O'Connor comes to Puget Sound from Starbucks Corp., where she was interim general counsel.
New Jersey Resources Corp. elected J. Terry Strange, formerly of KPMG LLP, to its board of directors.
Wisconsin-based WPS Resources Corp. promoted Bill Bourbonnais to assistant vice president of transmission. James Schott will assume Bourbonnais' earlier role as manager of rates and economic evaluation for Wisconsin Public Service Corp.
Robert Hall joined InoVision Inc. as its vice president of sales. The company assists utilities in managing current delinquencies, cutting costs, and recovering bad debt. Hall comes to InoVision from Duke Energy, where he was general manager of credit and collections.
Cambridge Energy Research Associates (CERA) appointed Hoff Stauffer to its North American Electric Transmission Advisory Service. David Clement, the previous leader of the firm's transmission team, is the new director of CERA's Western Energy Service.
Resignations:
The troubles at Westar Energy continue. Reuters reported that Paul Geist resigned as company CFO and senior vice president, although he retains his role as company treasurer.
Ralph Eads III is no longer with El Paso Corp. The former company executive vice president left El Paso at the end of 2002.
Donald W. Axford resigned as chairman of the board of directors at Canadian Superior Energy.
Ira D. Hall resigned from the board of Williams to become president and CEO of an investment management company.
Retirements:
Minnesota Power CEO Robert D. Edwards announced his retirement from the company, effective May 31, 2003. Donald J. Shippar has assumed Edwards' duties.
Unitil Corp. Senior Vice President and CFO Anthony J. Baratta Jr. will retire by April 1, 2003. Company Treasurer and Secretary Mark H. Collin assumed Baratta's roles on Feb. 1, in anticipation of his departure. The announcement follows the recent disclosure of the April 1 retirement of Unitil President and CEO Michael J. Dalton.
Northwestern Corp. Chairman and CEO Merle Lewis announced his retirement in early January. Gary G. Drook, chairman of Northwestern's governance committee, will serve as interim CEO.
Western Electricity Coordinating Council CEO Dennis E. Eyre will retire this year, concluding more than 32 years with council. He became the council's first full-time employee in 1971. Eyre will step down once his successor is appointed.
