Aquila Energy, a subsidiary of UtiliCorp United, has hired David H. Stevenson former marketing v.p. of Duke/Louis Dreyfus, as v.p. power marketing for its mid-continent and western regions.
Charles Falcone, who retired as American Electric Power's system power markets senior v.p., was named project managing director of the New York State Power Pool's Independent System Operator. Falcone served as an official with the U.S. Department of Energy for several years before joining AEP.
Ohio Electric Utility Institute has elected William J. Grealis as board chair and president. Grealis is president of Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co. Anthony J. Alexander, executive vice president and general counsel of Ohio Edison Co. in Akron, was named vice chair of the board.
Ashok C. Thadani has replaced retiring Edward L. Jordan, as deputy director for regulatory effectiveness at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research. Malcolm R. Knapp has replaced Ashok as director of the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research. Thadani joined the NRC in 1974 (when it was the Atomic Energy Commission) as a reactor engineer. Knapp began his NRC career in 1979.
AEP Energy Services Inc. hired former Duke/Louis Dreyfus trader and marketing manager George Rooney as a business development v.p. Rooney will be involved in joint ventures, alliances and other business opportunities in trading and marketing. Eric J. van der Walde will join AEP subsidiary AEP Energy Services Inc. as senior v.p. van der Walde is v.p., power trading for Enron Capital and Trade Resources.
Cassandra A. Matthews was promoted from PECO Energy's consumer energy information systems director to information systems v.p. Previously, Matthews served as v.p., strategic business development for Europe Online SA.
The board of directors of the American Gas Association appointed David N. Parker, former president of the Aluminum Association, as its president and CEO. Parker also serves as chair of the American Society of Association Executives.
Melanie McCoy has joined Detroit Edison as its first female power plant manager. McCoy previously managed Southern Energy Inc.'s Niagara cogeneration plant. McCoy will manage DE's 725-megawatt Trenton Channel power plant.
The National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners named Commissioner William Gillis vice chair of its Ad Hoc Committee on Consumer Affairs. Gillis is in his third of a six-year appointment as commissioner of the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission.
Former marketing analyst for Public Service Electric & Gas Co., James B. Cinelli has been hired as v.p. of MaGrann Associates' new utility business unit.
Olga A. Polemitou has been appointed v.p. and general auditor for Columbia Gas System Inc. Previously, she served as director of finance for Bell Atlantic and Video Service Co.
Michael G. Morris earlier this month took on his new position on the board of directors of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations. Morris is president and CEO of Consumers Energy, the main subsidiary of CMS Energy Corp., on which he serves as executive vice president.
Yankee Gas Services Co. has chosen John Ferrantino for the newly created position of director of business development. Ferrantino previously served as manager of technical marketing and sales support for the utility.
Chris Herman was moved from his position as v.p. and general manager of Louisville Gas and Electric Co.'s wholesale electric business into v.p. of business integration to oversee the company's merger with KU Energy Corp.
The board of directors of Idaho Power has chosen Jan B. Packwood to replace retiring COO and President Larry R. Gunnoe. Packwood is a 27-year veteran of Idaho Power, most recently as executive vice president. Gunnoe joined Idaho in 1968 as a design engineer. He has served as president and COO since 1990.
